Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

Should I choose Residential or Roam for Starlink?

Start with where you will use the connection. Residential is the fixed-home category to investigate; Roam is the travel category to investigate. Then read the exact offer for your address and hardware, because the category name alone does not describe every restriction.

Write down:

  • Whether the dish stays at one home or travels.
  • Every country where you expect to use it.
  • Whether use is parked or in motion.
  • Your likely monthly data demand.
  • Whether the service is personal or commercial.
  • What you expect to happen between trips.

Compare the plans offered in your account against that list. Do not pay for travel flexibility you will never use, or assume a fixed-address plan becomes portable because you move the equipment.

Check the consequences of switching back later, including availability and charges. Our recommendation is to choose the plan that explicitly permits the intended use, then assess performance and cost within those options.
