Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

Should I choose the widest Wi-Fi channel for my Starlink router?

Not automatically. A wider wireless channel can offer more capacity under suitable conditions, but it also uses more spectrum and may be a poor fit in a busy environment.

First establish that the problem is wireless: compare the affected location with a nearby or wired test. Check placement and interference before changing advanced settings. Some Starlink hardware manages channels automatically; do not assume a manual control exists for every model.

If you use a router that exposes channel-width settings, follow its guidance and change only one band at a time. Test the same device and activity afterward, including reliability in the weakest room.

Keep a note of the original setting so you can restore it. A higher displayed connection rate is not a useful improvement if calls become less stable or older devices stop joining. Select the setting that works consistently in your property.
