Answer
Should I put a firewall appliance before or after my Starlink router?
Decide which device will be the main router before connecting the firewall. A firewall that also routes traffic normally sits between the Starlink internet handoff and the local devices it protects.
With compatible hardware, Starlink bypass mode can let your own router or firewall manage the local network. Another arrangement keeps the Starlink router upstream, which can work but introduces an additional routing layer. The right wiring depends on the exact kit and firewall mode.
Start with one test computer behind the firewall. Confirm its WAN gets the expected settings, its LAN uses a suitable separate range and normal browsing works before adding more rules or devices.
Back up the existing configuration and label the original connections. Do not attempt the first change remotely at an unattended site. A short, documented rollback is more useful than discovering after the change that the management page is unreachable.
