Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

Will changing DNS improve my Starlink download speed?

Changing DNS can affect how a device looks up website addresses. It does not increase the capacity of the satellite connection or repair weak Wi-Fi, obstructions or a damaged cable.

If pages hesitate before loading, compare several unrelated websites and another device. A lookup problem is more plausible when address resolution fails while other internet activity continues.

Test a different trusted resolver on one device before changing the whole network. Record the previous setting, repeat the same tasks and check that work applications, filtering and sign-in pages still behave correctly.

A VPN, browser or device privacy feature may use its own DNS, so a router change might not affect the application you are testing. Restore the original setting if the result is unclear or worse. Judge the change by the fault it resolves, not by claims of a universal speed boost.
