Answer
Why does Starlink show data usage when nobody is at home?
Connected devices can transfer data without anyone actively using them. Cameras, cloud backups, software updates and devices left streaming are common things to investigate. The service counter and individual device counters may also cover different time periods.
Our suggested test is to list the devices that should remain online, then compare usage over a quiet period. Pause optional transfers on one device at a time and see whether the pattern changes. Do not disconnect alarms or other essential equipment without understanding the consequence.
For streaming devices, check whether playback continues and review the service's quality and data-use settings. An unfamiliar device label deserves investigation, but it is not automatically an intruder.
Use the Starlink account's billing-cycle meter as the reference for the plan allowance. Keep notes on dates and device activity rather than assuming an unexplained increase is a billing error.
