Answer
What is Starlink's demand surcharge, and when might it apply?
A demand surcharge is a one-off charge that can apply to a service line in a high-demand location. It depends on the service address and selected plan, rather than simply whether you already own a dish.
It may apply when starting service, activating a new plan, changing address or resuming high-speed Residential service. Starlink says switching into Standby or to a Roam plan should not trigger this charge; contact support with the invoice if that happens. Charges and availability can change.
What should I check before confirming?
Our practical checklist is to read the complete checkout or plan-change summary, record the address and service line, and save a screenshot of any upfront charge. Do not assume another customer's price applies to your address.
For faulty hardware, ask support about a replacement on your existing service line before buying another kit. A retail purchase activated as a new line can be treated differently.
