Answer
Does factory resetting Starlink remove the previous owner's account?
No. Resetting the router clears local Wi-Fi settings; it does not release the dish from the previous owner's Starlink account. Account transfer and router reset are separate steps.
What needs to happen?
The existing account holder must use Starlink's transfer process for an eligible kit. The buyer then activates the released hardware using its identifier and an available service option. Outstanding balances, rental equipment and eligibility restrictions can affect transfer.
Our buying recommendation is to agree the transfer process before payment and check the exact hardware identifier together. Do not treat a network named STARLINK, a successful Wi-Fi connection or the seller handing over a password as proof that the dish has been released.
If it remains assigned, ask the seller to resolve that with Starlink. Repeating factory resets is not an account-unlocking method.
