Answer
Will switching Starlink to backup internet interrupt an active call?
It can. A laptop changing from Starlink Wi-Fi to a phone hotspot, or an ordinary dual-WAN router switching providers, can change the connection path and public address. The calling application may recover, briefly freeze or require you to rejoin.
Specialised systems can maintain sessions across links, but the router, remote service, application and backup connection all matter. Do not interpret a promise of automatic failover as a promise of zero interruption.
Run a rehearsal with a willing test partner. Confirm which link is active, interrupt the primary connection in a controlled way, time recovery and check two-way audio. Restore the connection afterwards and observe whether switching back causes another interruption.
Keep meeting dial-in details or a rejoin link available where supported. A successful test is useful evidence for that setup and workload, but repeat it after major network changes. For essential work, choose backup capacity based on the calls and other critical tasks that must continue.
