Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

Where should a PoE switch connect in my Starlink network?

In a normal home layout, connect the PoE switch to a suitable LAN port on the router that manages your local network. Connect supported PoE access points or cameras to the switch's appropriate powered ports.

Identify the exact Starlink kit and its Ethernet handoff first. If your own router is the main router, the switch usually belongs downstream of that router, not between the dish and its power equipment.

Do not connect a powered injector output or a proprietary dish cable to a port simply because the connector fits. Check the device and switch instructions for the intended connection and power standard.

Start with one downstream device. Confirm that it powers up, receives an address on the intended network and performs its normal task. Add other devices one at a time while checking the total power budget. Label the uplink so future changes do not create an accidental loop.
