Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

Does the Starlink app need Local Network permission on an iPhone?

Local Network permission can matter when an iPhone app needs to communicate with equipment on the same network. Internet access and local-device access are separate permissions and paths.

If the Starlink app cannot find the local equipment, first confirm that the phone joined the correct Wi-Fi. On the iPhone, check Settings, Privacy & Security, then Local Network, and review the app's permission if it is listed. Apple documents that control for apps requesting local access.

Reopen the app and compare with another phone if available. Also check whether the phone is on an isolated guest network or using a VPN that changes local routing.

Only grant access to an app you recognise and trust. If the permission is already enabled and the problem affects every device, investigate the router layout and Starlink status rather than repeatedly toggling permissions. This check does not repair an actual dish or power fault.
