Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

Should I wait for Starlink V5 before ordering?

Usually, decide from the kit and plan Starlink offers for your address today. Starlink says V5 is available only in selected areas, with wider availability expected as production grows. It gives no universal date when a particular address will receive it. Check the actual kit, service plan and total checkout cost before delaying an order. Starlink's V4 and V5 comparison.

V5 is smaller and lighter than V4 and Starlink publishes a lower average power range: 35–50 W versus 75–100 W. That can matter for an always-on home connection or a carefully sized backup battery. It is not a promised speed upgrade: Starlink lists peak hardware download capability of 375+ Mbps for V5 and 400+ Mbps for V4, and says real speeds depend on the plan and availability. V5 is also not intended for in-motion use.

If you need home internet now and the offered kit, plan and installation location suit you, there is no published speed guarantee that makes waiting for V5 the obvious choice. If lower power draw or the smaller terminal matters most, check your address again later rather than assuming a release date. Existing V4 owners should first test sky obstruction and Wi-Fi before paying to replace a working kit.
