Is Starlink better than 4G or 5G home broadband in a rural area?
There is no universal winner: mobile broadband depends on the local mobile network, while Starlink needs an appropriate view of the sky. Compare both at the property where you will use them.
A practical trial is more useful than comparing signal bars with an advertised satellite speed. Test the mobile service in a suitable router position at several times, including the evening. Record video-call quality, uploads and interruptions as well as downloads. Repeat comparable tests with Starlink if you have access to a trial under the relevant purchase terms.
Include the mobile data allowance, any external antenna, the Starlink mount and each service's recurring charges. A good mobile connection may meet your needs with less equipment. If it struggles despite sensible positioning, Starlink becomes a stronger candidate. Keep the results so your decision reflects normal use.
