Answer
Why does my phone stay connected to a distant Starlink mesh node?
Client devices help decide when to move between access points. A phone may retain a weaker connection longer than expected, and the strongest-looking node is not always the one with the best path back to the router.
At the problem location, briefly reconnect Wi-Fi and check whether performance improves. Compare another device in the same place. If only one client behaves poorly, check its software and network settings before changing the entire mesh.
Review node placement and the quality of each node's connection to the main router. Adding more nodes can create unnecessary overlap or poor wireless backhaul rather than improving the route.
Use the mesh manufacturer's supported roaming settings if available and test normal movement through the property. Avoid repeatedly raising transmit power or changing several controls together. The goal is a reliable end-to-end connection, not simply a strong signal icon.
