Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

How do I stop a Starlink watchdog plug causing a reboot loop?

A watchdog should distinguish a sustained connection failure from a brief missed response and allow enough time for a full restart. An aggressive check can cut power again before the equipment finishes recovering.

Test the device's health-check target, failure threshold, recovery delay and maximum restart count using its own instructions. Confirm whether the probe could fail because of DNS, the target service or a local network issue rather than Starlink.

Keep a manual way to disable the watchdog. Test locally first and record the restart sequence. If it starts looping, restore stable power and investigate the original fault instead of shortening the delay further.

Do not let a watchdog repeatedly power-cycle equipment that shows heat, moisture or damage. Nor should it reboot continuously during a wider service outage. A sensible design limits attempts and alerts an operator when automatic recovery has not worked.
