Answer

Wireless bridge or mesh Wi-Fi: which is better for a Starlink garden office?

A wireless bridge and mesh Wi-Fi solve different parts of the same problem. A bridge carries your existing Starlink network between two buildings using a pair of outdoor radios. A mesh node or access point supplies Wi-Fi inside the garden office. Many good setups use both.

Which should I choose?

  • Try mesh first if the office is very close to the house and a supported node still has a strong link at the intended position. Test at the actual desk with doors and windows in their normal positions. Do not assume an indoor node is weatherproof.
  • Consider a point-to-point bridge if there is a clear, practical path between detached buildings and a normal mesh link is weak or unreliable. You will usually still need an access point or wired connection inside the office.
  • Ask about a professionally installed wired link if you have a suitable route and want a stable permanent connection. Fibre may be appropriate between separate buildings because it avoids a conductive data path; let a qualified installer assess the route and electrical protection.

A bridge is not a way to increase Starlink's satellite speed. It simply carries the same connection farther across your property. Its performance depends on mounting, power, line of sight and local interference. A mesh node cannot repair a poor bridge link.

Start by testing the Starlink connection beside the main router, then in the office. Our garden office setup guide gives a route checklist and a call-and-upload test. For Wi-Fi inside the house, see the mesh setup guide.
