How to Move Starlink to a New Home: Service Address, Billing and Setup Checklist
Plans, Pricing & Buying Advice
Moving an active Starlink kit is straightforward if you treat the account, service address and physical hardware as three separate parts of the job. Check the new location first, change the service address at the right time, then set up and test the kit before reconnecting everything in the house.
Independent owner's note: Starlink Tips is not part of Starlink. If you order through our referral link, we may receive a reward. Your price should not increase, but offers, eligibility and regional terms can change. Always check the offer shown by Starlink before ordering.

Before you move: know which address you are changing
Starlink uses different addresses for different jobs:
- Service address: where the Starlink is authorised to provide service. This is the address that matters when you move the active kit to a new home.
- Shipping address: where future orders or replacement parts are delivered. Changing it does not move an existing subscription.
- Billing and account details: your login, payment method and subscription history. These remain part of your account while the service location changes.
The important step is changing the service address, not simply editing your profile or shipping address.
1. Check the new home before packing
Open the Starlink availability map and check the new address. Availability and capacity can vary from one area to the next, and your price, regional discount or other plan conditions may change after the move.
Also check the practical installation:
- Can the dish see a wide, clear section of sky?
- Is there a safe temporary location for the first test?
- Can the cable reach the router without a sharp bend, crushing or a door trapping it?
- Is there a dry, ventilated indoor position for the router and power equipment?
- Will the landlord, building owner or local authority require permission for a permanent mount?
Do not cancel the existing service and place a new order just because you are moving house. First confirm what your account allows at the new address. Reordering can create avoidable hardware, billing and activation problems.
2. Choose the right time to change the service address
Starlink warns that updating the service address disables service at the previous location, and returning to that address may not be possible. Make the change when you are ready to use the kit at the new home, rather than weeks before the move.
For a same-country move, the current Starlink account flow is usually:
On the Starlink website
- Sign in to your Starlink account.
- Open Subscriptions and select the subscription for the kit you are moving.
- Find Service Location and choose Edit.
- Enter the new address and save the change.
In the Starlink app
- Open the Starlink app while signed in to the correct account.
- Open the account or menu area and choose Manage Subscription.
- Select Service Location.
- Use your current location or enter the new address manually.
- Choose Set Service Address and confirm.
Labels can vary slightly by region and app version. If the option is missing or the address is rejected, try the account website in a browser and update the app before contacting support.
Important: Starlink's current service-address instructions do not apply in the same way to Roam and Maritime plans. Check the rules for your exact plan before changing the address.
3. Know the country boundary
A permanent move to another country is not the same as moving across town. Starlink says a service address cannot simply be changed to a different country from the one used at sign-up. An international move normally requires a hardware transfer, cancellation of the current service and activation on a new account in the destination country.
Do not change the address repeatedly to try to bypass country or availability rules. If the move crosses a national border, read Starlink's transfer requirements or contact support before cancelling anything.
4. Pack the kit without creating a new fault
Before disconnecting:
- Use the app to check for existing alerts or intermittent service.
- Shut the system down normally if the app provides that option, then disconnect power.
- Photograph the cable route and label the router, power supply and any third-party network equipment.
- Coil cables loosely. Do not fold them sharply, pinch them in a box or pull on the connectors.
- Protect connectors from dust and moisture during transport.
- Keep the dish, router and power supply padded and dry.
If the dish is permanently mounted, plan the removal rather than forcing it free. Keep the mount hardware together and inspect it for cracks, bent parts or missing fixings before reinstalling.
5. Set up and test at the new home
Start with a temporary test position before drilling or committing to a permanent mount:
- Place the dish where it has the clearest practical view of the sky.
- Keep the router and power equipment indoors, dry and ventilated.
- Route the cable without crushing it or trapping it under a door.
- Power the system and give the account time to update.
- Open the app and check for an online status, obstructions and alerts.
- Run a few tests at different times instead of relying on one speed test.
- Walk around the new home to check Wi-Fi coverage before deciding where to add mesh or a separate access point.
Starlink says service-address changes may take 15–30 minutes to appear in the account. If the dish is powered at the new address but the account still shows the old location, wait for that window, refresh the app and check the account website before changing settings again.
6. Reconnect the home network
Once the Starlink link is stable:
- Reconnect your own router, firewall, switch or mesh system using the same layout you used at the old home.
- Check whether bypass mode, DHCP settings, VLANs or custom DNS settings still match the new network.
- Reconnect wired devices one at a time.
- Confirm printers, cameras, smart-home hubs and work devices can reach the services they need.
- Update any device that was configured with a fixed IP address or old network name.
- Check remote-access services after the move; changing the physical location does not remove CGNAT or make inbound connections available.
Make the permanent mount and cable entry only after the temporary test proves that the location, coverage and cable length work.
7. Check the first bill and plan details
Review the account after the move:
- Confirm the new service address is shown against the correct subscription.
- Check the plan name, monthly price, taxes, discounts and any regional pricing change.
- Confirm the payment method is still valid.
- Check future shipping details separately if you expect to order a mount or replacement cable.
- Keep the old address out of the account unless Starlink specifically asks for it for another service or order.
A move can change local pricing or eligibility even when the hardware and email login stay the same. Take a screenshot of the new subscription details for your records.
If the move does not work
The new address is unavailable or at capacity: Do not keep retrying the same change. Check the availability map, review the plan options shown in your account and contact Starlink support if the result does not match your address.
The account still shows the old location: Allow up to 15–30 minutes, refresh the app, sign in through the website and confirm you changed Service Location, not only the shipping address.
The dish is online but speeds are poor: Check obstructions and the temporary dish position first. Then test over Ethernet if possible so you can separate satellite service from new-home Wi-Fi coverage.
The app rejects the address: Update the app, try the website and verify the address format. A country mismatch, unavailable service area or account-specific restriction may require support.
The move is international: Stop before cancelling. Follow Starlink's transfer process for the destination country and expect a new activation step.
Moving-day checklist
- [ ] Check the new address on the availability map.
- [ ] Confirm the kit and subscription you are moving.
- [ ] Delay the service-address change until you are ready to use the new home.
- [ ] Photograph, label and safely pack the equipment.
- [ ] Test the new dish position before permanent installation.
- [ ] Allow time for the account to reflect the new location.
- [ ] Verify the app, alerts, obstructions and Wi-Fi coverage.
- [ ] Review the plan, price, discounts and payment method.
- [ ] Reconnect third-party networking and smart-home equipment.
- [ ] Keep shipping-address changes separate from service-address changes.
The bottom line
For a same-country home move, the cleanest sequence is: check availability, move the service address when you are ready, pack the kit carefully, test the new location temporarily and only then rebuild the permanent network. Do not assume that changing a shipping address moves service, and do not cancel an active subscription before you understand what the new address and plan will allow.
