Answer
Why is my Starlink upload speed slow when downloads seem fine?
Upload and download performance can differ. A good streaming experience does not establish that cloud backups, large file uploads or video publishing will be equally fast.
Start with a controlled comparison:
- Pause optional cloud sync and other large transfers.
- Use the same device and a consistent test service.
- Compare your normal Wi-Fi position with a nearby or wired connection.
- Try one real upload to a trusted service.
- Check the Starlink app for interruptions around the same time.
If only one destination is slow, investigate that service or application rather than assuming the dish is faulty. If moving near the router makes a repeatable difference, address the local network.
Do not judge the connection from a single transfer: file size, application behaviour and the destination's own capacity matter. Record when the problem occurs and whether other household devices are uploading. Our recommendation is to isolate local traffic and Wi-Fi before considering a plan or hardware change.
