Evening slowdowns can reflect demand on the wider service, activity inside your home or a local Wi-Fi problem. Timing alone does not prove network congestion.

Collect a small set of comparable results:

1. Use the same device, test service and location.
2. Compare a quiet period with the evening.
3. Record upload, download and responsiveness, not just one number.
4. Repeat near the main router or over Ethernet where supported.
5. Pause optional large household transfers for one comparison.
6. Check app alerts and interruptions at the same time.

If the wired or close-range result is healthy while a distant room is slow, work on Wi-Fi coverage. If every device is affected and the pattern persists with household traffic controlled, keep the record for support.

Starlink's performance can vary during busy periods, but changing plan is not the first diagnostic step. Establish the bottleneck before spending more, and avoid resetting working equipment between every test.

Upload and download performance can differ. A good streaming experience does not establish that cloud backups, large file uploads or video publishing will be equally fast.

Start with a controlled comparison:

• Pause optional cloud sync and other large transfers.
• Use the same device and a consistent test service.
• Compare your normal Wi-Fi position with a nearby or wired connection.
• Try one real upload to a trusted service.
• Check the Starlink app for interruptions around the same time.

If only one destination is slow, investigate that service or application rather than assuming the dish is faulty. If moving near the router makes a repeatable difference, address the local network.

Do not judge the connection from a single transfer: file size, application behaviour and the destination's own capacity matter. Record when the problem occurs and whether other household devices are uploading. Our recommendation is to isolate local traffic and Wi-Fi before considering a plan or hardware change.

The tests may be measuring different parts of the connection. Starlink's Advanced Speed Test distinguishes the router-to-internet link from the device-to-router and device-to-internet paths.

A strong router-to-internet result alongside a poor laptop result suggests checking the laptop's local connection first. Our practical comparison is to use the same laptop near the main router, then over supported Ethernet if available, while keeping background activity similar.

A slow local link can involve weak Wi-Fi, a dock, an old switch, a cable or device settings. Different test servers and test times can also produce different numbers.

Record the individual test labels, not just the largest figure on the screen. A high local Wi-Fi rate is not the satellite internet speed, and a low result from one old device does not establish that the whole Starlink connection is slow.
