Questions & answers

Clear, practical answers to the things people want to know before and after choosing Starlink.

Answer

How do I choose a UPS for my Starlink setup?

Choose a UPS using the load of your complete installation and the length of interruption you want to cover. Its headline VA rating alone does not tell you how long Starlink will run.

Measure normal consumption at the wall, including the dish, router and any essential network equipment. Allow for changing demand and check that the UPS supports both the continuous load and the equipment's startup requirements.

Compare the manufacturer's runtime chart at a load close to yours. Two units with the same output rating can have different battery capacity and runtime. Also check plug compatibility, replacement-battery availability, ventilation requirements and any restrictions on connected equipment.

Decide whether you need a few minutes to bridge brief cuts or several hours of service. A small desktop UPS may suit the first goal while a larger, appropriately specified battery system may be needed for the second.

After installation, test a controlled mains interruption according to the UPS instructions. Record actual runtime and repeat the check periodically as batteries age.
