When I first considered getting Starlink, I had many of the same questions that prospective customers have today.
Would it provide a reliable connection? Would it work well at my location? Was it worth the equipment and monthly cost? What would installation involve, and were there any disadvantages I should understand before ordering?
Finding straightforward answers was not always easy. Information was spread across different websites, videos, forums and social-media posts. Some explanations were highly technical, while others appeared more interested in selling Starlink than helping people decide whether it was actually suitable for them.
That experience is why I created Starlink Tips.
Start with my own Starlink setup
I’m Ian Collins, a Starlink user in rural Suffolk. My home setup uses Residential Max with an unobstructed view of the sky. I also use a Starlink Mini for portable connectivity.
These accounts explain what I have reported from my own installation:
- My Starlink Speed Test Results: 359 Mbps Down, 43 Mbps Up

My reported speed results include 359 Mbps download, 43 Mbps upload and 19 ms latency. These are past observations from my installation, not live readings or a promised result for another address. The individual guides explain the installation context and what is documented.
The purpose of Starlink Tips
Starlink Tips is an independent website intended to help new and existing users understand Starlink and satellite broadband.
My aim is to bring useful information together in one place, including:
- guidance for people considering Starlink;
- installation and setup advice;
- explanations of equipment and service plans;
- troubleshooting information;
- useful videos from experienced Starlink users;
- news and important service updates;
- and honest discussions about both the advantages and limitations of Starlink.
I want visitors to have enough reliable information to make their own informed decisions.
Starlink can be an excellent solution, particularly in places where dependable fibre or cable broadband is unavailable. However, it will not necessarily be the best choice for every home, business or situation.
Your location, nearby obstructions, installation options, local network capacity, service availability and existing broadband alternatives should all be considered before placing an order.

Some pages on Starlink Tips contain referral links to the official Starlink website.
If you follow one of these links and place an eligible Starlink order, I may receive a referral reward from Starlink. Depending on your current offer and your eligibility, you may also receive a benefit.
Starlink has advised me that eligible referral rewards can now be paid either as cash or as credit towards my Starlink service. Starlink has also confirmed that qualifying referrals from outside my country can be rewarded.
The amount is based on the regional referral rate for the country in which the new customer signs up.
Referral rewards help support Starlink Tips. My recommendation remains that you choose the service only when it suits your location, needs and budget.

How my referral link works: check the destination and the offer
I want you to understand what happens before you click a referral button. Starlink Tips is my independent information website. The referral programme is run by Starlink, and your equipment order and service subscription are placed with Starlink.
The referral button on this site links to starlink.com with a referral code attached. That code identifies the referring account. Opening the link is the beginning of an optional order journey; it does not itself place an order or activate a subscription.
Follow the order journey with confidence
- Check the destination. After clicking, check the browser's address bar. You should be on the official starlink.com website, rather than relying on a logo or a familiar-looking page.
- Enter your real service address. Review the equipment, plans, total payment and recurring charges that Starlink offers for that location.
- Read the referral offer before paying. Confirm that the benefit is displayed for your proposed order. If it is missing or unclear, ask Starlink through its official support route before completing the purchase.
- Complete the purchase with Starlink. Your order, payment, activation and service account are handled there. You do not need to give me your Starlink password, payment-card details or verification codes.
- Check the credit in your own account. Keep the order confirmation and review your upcoming Starlink bill after activation.
Why the free month is usually the second month
Starlink's referral help page, checked on 12 October 2026, explains that eligible customers pay for the first month and receive a service credit against the next invoice. It instructs new customers to order through the referral link, activate the kit and remain subscribed for at least two months.
Eligibility matters. The current guidance excludes existing or returning customers and kits obtained through retailers, resellers or an account transfer. Only eligible plans and offers qualify. Read the terms for your country and the offer shown by Starlink for your actual order.
What I receive, and why I disclose it
I may receive a referral reward if your order qualifies. That is a benefit to me, so I disclose it openly. Referral rewards help support this website. You are welcome to read the guides, watch the selected videos and compare other broadband options before deciding whether Starlink suits you.
The reassurance I want to offer is a process you can check yourself: a visible link to Starlink, an offer confirmed on Starlink's pages, an order placed with Starlink and a credit shown in your own account.
