The real-world result
The most important part of my Starlink setup is not the mast, router or plan: it is the unobstructed view of the sky. The Starlink app reports a clear view at my installation, and that is central to the strong, stable result I experience.
Trees, rooflines, chimneys and nearby buildings can interrupt the path to satellites. A position that appears open from the ground may still contain an obstruction in the part of the sky Starlink needs.
What I learned
Use the app before committing to a mount. Try the intended height and direction, at a time when nearby trees and structures can be assessed properly. If one place shows an obstruction, test another rather than assuming more height is always the answer.
What I would do before copying this approach
A simple, secure mount with a clean sky view is better than an elaborate installation that still looks through branches or buildings.
My practical advice
My clear sky view and strong speed results describe the same installation, but they are not a controlled before-and-after experiment proving that a particular mast height adds a particular number of megabits. The useful evidence is that my completed setup has an unobstructed view and has worked well for me.
Keep a screenshot of the obstruction view alongside any connection tests so you can compare conditions later. Record changes around the property, such as seasonal tree growth, rather than relying on memory.
