The real-world result

My Starlink app statistics showed an average power draw of 28 W during the recorded period. That is a useful real-world figure for my setup, but power use can vary with hardware, temperature, activity, snow-melt conditions and the way the system is used.

To estimate running cost, measure your own system where possible and multiply the average wattage by the hours it runs, then apply your electricity price. Do not assume one customer’s figure will match every kit.

What I learned

Power matters particularly for off-grid, backup and campervan use. Allow for the router, any Ethernet or mesh equipment, conversion losses and safe battery capacity—not just the dish.

What I would do before copying this approach

A stable, efficient installation starts with suitable power and safe cabling. Do not overload a portable inverter or use damaged extensions just to reach a convenient location.
