Straight answers to the questions readers ask most often.

What do latency, jitter and packet loss mean for Starlink calls and games?

Latency is the delay in a network exchange. Jitter is variation in that delay, while packet loss means some data does not arrive as expected. Live calls and games can expose these problems even when a large download finishes quickly.

Our practical test is to reproduce the activity that fails and note the time. Compare near the main router or over Ethernet, pause optional heavy transfers, and inspect Starlink's interruption information. A single average ping can hide short periods of much worse performance.

If a problem follows one game server or call platform, compare another destination. If it affects everything at once, investigate the shared connection and local network.

Treat any historical latency figures in engineering reports as background, not a guarantee for your address. Record a repeatable pattern for support rather than drawing conclusions from one unusually good or bad speed test.
