How to Give Starlink Priority to Work and Video Calls at Home

Tips & Tricks

Starlink can support home working well, but a poor local Wi-Fi setup can spoil an otherwise healthy connection. Start with the home network before assuming the satellite link is the problem.

Put the router where people use it

Place it in an open, central spot where practical—away from enclosed cabinets, large metal objects and thick walls. A router hidden at one end of the house may leave meeting rooms dependent on a weak signal.

Wire the important desk if you can

A stable wired connection is often the simplest improvement for a fixed desk, especially for long calls. Use compatible Ethernet hardware and run cables safely; do not improvise with damaged leads or unsuitable outdoor routes.

Reduce avoidable congestion

Schedule large downloads, game updates and cloud backups outside important calls where possible. Ask household members to pause high-bandwidth jobs during a critical meeting if your network is under pressure.

Test the whole route

Try a call close to the router, then from the normal work position. The comparison tells you whether you need to improve Wi-Fi coverage or investigate the Starlink installation itself.
