How to Restart Starlink Safely When Your Connection Misbehaves
Tips & Tricks
A restart can clear a temporary connection issue, but it should be a deliberate troubleshooting step—not the first response to every slowdown.
Check the obvious first
Look at the Starlink app for an outage, obstruction or hardware message. Check that the router has power and that cables are seated without forcing them. A planned restart will be more useful when you know what you are trying to rule out.
Use the app where possible
If the app is available, use its restart controls and wait for the system to come back fully. Do not repeatedly power-cycle the equipment while it is reconnecting; that can make it harder to tell whether the first restart worked.
If power-cycling is necessary
Only disconnect power if the app is unavailable and you have checked the physical setup. Leave the equipment off briefly, reconnect it, then allow several minutes for the dish and router to initialise. Keep an eye on the app rather than guessing from a single device.
What to note if it persists
Write down the time, app message and whether every device is affected. That makes it much easier to distinguish Wi-Fi problems from service or dish issues.
