Check rural-property internet before buying
Getting Started
Check internet suitability for the exact property before relying on a seller's statement that Starlink works there. A working terminal, service eligibility, usable sky view and indoor coverage are separate questions.
Confirm the address and the service
Use Starlink's official availability and order process for the full property address. Record the date and the offer shown, but do not assume it will remain available until completion. Compare other realistic connections too, including fixed broadband and mobile coverage.
Ask which equipment is included in the sale and who owns it. A dish on a roof does not by itself transfer an account or service. Have the seller complete the official transfer process where applicable; do not accept their password as a substitute.
Survey safely
Use the app's obstruction tool from accessible proposed positions. Note trees, roof edges and seasonal foliage. An aerial photograph or a seller's speed test cannot establish uninterrupted service at your preferred mounting point.
Arrange professional assessment where work at height or a new mount is needed. Include permissions, listed-building or landlord constraints where relevant. This is a connectivity checklist, not a substitute for a property survey or legal due diligence.
Test inside the property
Where the seller agrees, test normal tasks in the rooms and outbuildings you expect to use. Distinguish satellite connection performance from Wi-Fi coverage. Ask for the cable route, power locations and any network diagrams; include workshop or garden-office links in the assessment.
List the handover work
Write down equipment ownership, account transfer steps, mount condition, cable repairs, indoor coverage work and backup connection requirements. Obtain quotes for uncertain items before treating the installation as complete.
Keep your existing connection or another tested option during the move where possible. After the handover, verify your own account, recovery details, Wi-Fi credentials and real-world operation.
The linked installation video demonstrates why site conditions matter. Its results and mounting solution belong to that property and should not be treated as a forecast for yours.
