Check Campsite Internet Before Booking: A Connectivity Planning Worksheet
Campervans, Motorhomes & RVs
Choose a campsite for the trip you want, then check whether its connectivity can support the work or communication you must do there. A listing that says Wi-Fi available is not a guarantee of coverage at your pitch or capacity during a busy evening.
Write down the essential tasks
List the dates and times when you need a connection, the devices involved and the consequences of an interruption. Separate occasional messages from a scheduled interview, large upload or remote desktop session. Identify a workable alternative location for critical tasks.
Ask the campsite specific questions
Ask whether Wi-Fi reaches the proposed pitch, whether it has a captive login, any session or device limits, and whether travel routers are permitted. If a dish will be deployed, check site permission, safe cable routing and any restrictions on equipment outside the vehicle.
Ask for recent information rather than relying only on old reviews. A different pitch, tree canopy or busy period can change the experience. Do not request another guest's private network credentials.
Check the Starlink and mobile options separately
Use Starlink's official map and your account to confirm current service eligibility for the destination and intended use. Check mobile coverage with the intended carrier, then treat its map as a planning aid rather than a performance promise. Two SIMs on the same underlying network may not provide the diversity you expect.
For a possible dish position, consider trees, roof lines and a safe place to stand the equipment. An online photograph cannot replace an on-site obstruction scan. Avoid a booking that depends on an unverified elevated or improvised mount.

Test before settling in
On arrival, test the intended setup before the first important appointment. Try the real application, not just a speed test. Check upload and call behaviour, confirm the backup works and make sure its data allowance is active.
If the pitch is unsuitable, discuss a permitted alternative with staff. Do not run a cable across a vehicle route or move onto another pitch without agreement. Keep a pack-down checklist visible before departure.
