Starlink News Checklist: What to Review Before You Order

Starlink headlines can help you discover changes, but a buying decision should be based on what Starlink currently offers to your exact address and whether the property can support a safe, unobstructed installation.

1. Check the service address

Start with Starlink’s UK availability map and order journey. Enter the complete service address. Do not assume that a neighbour, nearby village or old map proves that the same service is available to you.

Record the date of the check because capacity and options can change.

2. Review the current plan

Read the official UK service-plan page and the plan shown at checkout. Confirm whether it is intended for a fixed address, travel or another use, and understand any priority, data or mobility wording displayed.

Avoid choosing solely by the plan name. Read what the current version includes.

3. Confirm the hardware

Identify the kit offered during checkout and what is included in the box. Check whether the intended mount, cable length, adapter or networking arrangement requires additional parts.

If you are comparing an article or video, confirm that it discusses the same hardware generation. Installation advice for an older kit may not transfer directly to a newer design.

4. Calculate the complete cost

Look beyond the advertised monthly figure. Record the hardware price, delivery, recurring service charge, accessories and likely installation cost. If the site shows a discount or referral benefit, capture the exact wording and when it will be applied.

Prices and promotions can change, so the checkout summary is more authoritative than an older review.

5. Check the sky view

Use the Starlink app to scan for obstructions at the proposed dish location. Trees, roofs and other objects can interrupt service. Test realistic positions rather than holding the phone somewhere the dish cannot safely be installed.

A clear view is only part of the decision. The position must also allow a secure mount, protected cable route and safe future maintenance.

6. Plan the cable route and router position

Decide how the cable will enter the building without being crushed, sharply bent or exposed to avoidable damage. Place the router where household devices can receive a useful signal.

A strong satellite connection cannot compensate for poor Wi-Fi throughout the property. Larger or difficult buildings may need a considered local network design.

7. Check support, activation and returns

Read the current order, activation, cancellation and returns information before paying. Know how to contact Starlink through the account and app. Keep order confirmations and photographs of delivered equipment.

If buying used equipment, confirm transfer and activation requirements before exchanging money.

8. Verify the referral offer

Open the referral link before ordering and make sure the benefit appears in Starlink’s official journey. Save a screenshot of the displayed offer. Do not rely on an old promotional image or assume it can be added after payment.

9. Test your alternatives

Compare Starlink with the broadband options actually available at the address, not national headline speeds. Consider reliability, upload needs, latency-sensitive work, mobile coverage and how important a backup connection is.

10. Make the decision from evidence

A sensible order rests on five confirmed points: current address availability, a suitable plan, the correct equipment, a safe clear installation position and a complete affordable cost. If one is uncertain, resolve it before paying.
